Meet The Team
WRITER
Coach Gene Clemons
Coach Gene Clemons has been involved with the game of football as a player, a coach, and a journalist for 30 years. He was a three-sport athlete in high school and in college but it was football where he made a real name for himself as a receiver and tight end. Clemons graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 2004 with a BA in Journalism and began his coaching and media careers. Over the next 19 years he would hold positions as a high school head coach and college assistant coach. He would also have bylines in publications like The Boston Globe, Worcester Telegram and Gazette, Bridgton News, Urbana Daily Citizen, Macon Telegraph, Football Gameplan, Giants Country, and The Athletic. Now he brings his unique perspective to an underserved and underrepresented Southeastern region of the Football Championship Subdivision.

I grew up in MT dreaming to play for Cats or Griz and following the Big Sky since the 80’s. I had many cousins/etc. play for both in state schools. I played D-Tackle for the Griz from 95-99. (Won title in 95 & lost title in 96.) My brother, Curt, played for Griz from 98-02 and was an All American & National Champion D-Tackle as well. I coached and taught for years before getting into the insurance industry. I now own and lead an: Insurance Agency, Real Estate rentals, and an Online store…while serving on many non-profit boards. I have lived in Fargo, ND for 20 years now with my business adventures…so know the Missouri Valley and Dakota 4 FCS programs really well too now. I am married with 3 sports loving daughters and try to spend as much time as possible at our MN lake cabin! I love talking college football and all the storylines that the game provides that give us joy.

I grew up on a ranch in Southcentral Montana and was a part of some great high school sports teams at Shepherd High School. I have followed the Big Sky Conference and all of FCS football closely since the 1980's. Following high school I played division 3 football in Minnesota and eventually got into sports broadcasting. My broadcasting career took me many places back in Montana as well as Nebraska, Idaho and eventually landing in Fargo, ND. I transitioned from broadcasting to athletic administration where I enjoyed a 13 year run as an assistant athletic director at NDSU where I managed the media rights and provided broadcasting duties. Currently I reside in Fargo, ND with wife Steffanie and children Jay and Libby while operating the West Fargo Hockey Association as its Executive Director.

The ultimate connoisseur of offense. Stone works for ESPN West Palm Beach covering all things South Florida. The former Quarterback of the Southern Illinois Salukis has a fiery passion for the FCS due to it's lack of coverage and how stockpiled the rosters are of NFL caliber players.
