Rail Rivalry Highlights SoCon Week 6

Week 6 in the SoCon features 8 teams and 4 conference matchups, at this point in the season Mercer is the team to beat, being 3-0 in conference play and 5-0 overall. This week serves as a good opportunity for teams to take advantage being that Mercer is using this week as a bye.

All games being played on Saturday, first up we have the Furman Paladins at The Citadel Bulldogs. With Furman coming off of being heavily affected by Hurricane Helene they look to use that to their advantage and galvanize them to a victory, led by head coach Clay Hendrix and quarterback Trey Hedden, who currently on the season has 751 passing yards to 3 interceptions.

The Bulldogs will look to fight that with their SoCon leading defense, led by redshirt junior linebacker Thomas Wyatt who leads the conference in total tackles and sacks heading into week six.

Wofford will be at Western Carolina as the Catamounts led by Junior Quarterback Cole Gonzales as they look to hold home turf and pick up their first conference win of the season, Gonzales currently ranks third in passing in the Southern Conference 88-153 for 977 yards and 4 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. But the Catamounts have a 2nd ranked defense in the SoCon and look to hold off the Terriers. As for them and Quarterback Amari Odom, they look for their first conference win on the season.

Samford will host VMI to open conference play as they look for a first conference victory this season, last season the Bulldogs earned a 27-14 victory against the Keydets in Lexington, VA. The Keydets of VMI are looking for their first win of the season as they are 0-4.

Finally, we have Chattanooga at ETSU in the 47th edition of the Rail Rivalry, The Mocs come off their first win of the season this past weekend in a 45-30 high powered offensive show at Finley Stadium against Portland State. The Bucs of ETSU scored a 34-17 victory at The Citadel as they moved into the top 25 into No.23. Chattanooga has won the last 4 matchups between these two teams and six of the last seven. Stars for both teams include Chattanooga QB Chase Artopoeus and ETSU Running back Bryson Irby, who leads the Southern Conference in rushing with 480 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Artopoeus leads the conference in passing with 1,028 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Gear up for another good week in the SoCon, these week 6 matchups are going to be action packed.
