SoCon Week 10 Serves up Heat!

The Southern Conference has some major games this week as we hit week 10 in the FCS season, Mercer is still ranked high and top 10, as well as a major matchup in Cullowhee, N.C. between Western Carolina and Chattanooga.

Furman will visit VMI on Saturday in Lexington, V.A.  The Keydets come home after a loss last week on the road at Chattanooga, bringing them to (0-8) on the season. Furman enters the weekend (2-5).  The Keydets being winless at this point of the season brings a countdown to a win at this point, this season comes down to just getting a win for them now.

The Wofford Terriers (3-5) will visit Samford (3-4) this weekend as the Terriers and Bulldogs both look to rebound off of losses last week, Samford to The Citadel, and Wofford losing to ETSU. Wofford comes in ranked 3rd in defense in the SoCon, Samford however still has the upset of the year in the SoCon against Mercer in week 8.

ETSU (5-3) will visit Macon, GA to face the Mercer Bears (7-1) but Mercer has struggled the last couple of weeks with an upset loss to Samford and edging out a win last week at home against Western Carolina. The Bears look to come back and make a statement and prove why they still deserve a top 10 spot. Mercer’s Dwayne McGee leads the SoCon in rushing with 742 yards and 7 touchdowns on the year. Meanwhile, ETSU’s Bryson Irby is 3rd with 582 yards and 5 touchdowns. So, this game could feature some great ground game.

And finally in Cullowhee, N.C we have the Western Carolina Catamounts, against the visiting Chattanooga Mocs, Chattanooga comes in on a 5-game winning streak heading into this weekend, Rusty Wright and Chase Artopoeus enter with a rush attack that has been on top of its game the last couple weeks, with The Mocs only scoring on the ground last week against VMI. Meanwhile Western Carolina’s Cole Gonzales has been setting record numbers via the air, with him leading the conference in passing, but Artopoeus being right behind him in 2nd.

This week should serve up more great games, keep your eyes open, especially in Macon and Cullowhee.
